Halloween 2012

Hayden got to dress up for school.
The instructions were to dress like your favorite character from a book.
Luckily we have a Lego's Star Wars book.
Here's the class lining up.
His teacher as the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree.
Then in the evening, the block went trick or treating around the neighborhood.
Jason dressed up as a Nascar Fan.
This was Hailey's first costume.  She ended up changing into a sailor suit that Suzanne had made Vivi a few years ago.
Vivi's amazing clown costume... Suzanne is amazingly talented!  Can you tell she works in fashion.
And lucky for us, Hailey got to wear one of her homemade costumes.
She looked so cute!  Much better than the department store princess dress.
All the kids that dressed up!
Hailey's first year trick or treating with the other kids.
She did a great job- so brave!  After a while, she started going up to the doors all by herself.
Checking out all the candy they scored!

Halloween Block Party

Last weekend we had our annual Halloween block party.
 We started with pumpkin carving.
Then an apple bobbing game (well, from a string).
 For kids big and small.
Hayden got the hang of it this year.
 Vivi.
Hailey wasn't too sure.  She stood there and stared at the apple.
 Maggie won!
Next game was how many marshmallows can you stuff in your mouth and still say "Pumpkin Bumpkin".
I think they needed some mini marshmallows for the little kids.
Of course, Hayden was just happy to be eating a marshmallow.
Hayden's prize for finishing well on the Apple game.
 A little break for dinner.
 Then the Mummy Game!
Hayden didn't have the best strategy.  One should not start with the face!
 Hailey enjoying the festivities
Next the whipped cream eating contest.
 No hands.
 Go!
Hayden cleaned his plate.  But it just transferred onto his head!
After all the other kids were gone, Hailey was still standing there staring at her full plate of whipped cream.
She was torn...  she loves whipped cream.  But no hands?  Finally someone brought the poor girl a spoon.
Another great party!!!!  Great memories for the kids.

Carving Pumpkins

Hayden was very anxious to carve pumpkins this year.  Hailey didn't know what to expect.  I don't think she remembered it from last year.  Here's her face when she first saw what was inside.
 So curious!
She watched as Hayden cleaned out his pumpkin.
I tried to encourage her to clean out her pumpkin but she wasn't too sure.
I think this was as close as she got to the seeds.
Here she is trying to muster up some courage.
 Contemplating...
 "Are you sure Mom?"
She decided to wait and have Dad clean it out.
But Hayden worked diligently on his pumpkin!
Here's Dad doing the final scrap.
 Then to the carving.
And the finished product!
